Parenting these days, I can imagine, is much different from how it was when I was a child. As a kid, the way I would communicate with someone was via telephone, a pager, or face to face. I was 15 years old when I got my first cell phone, and shortly after I became a member of Facebook. Raising my two kids in this new, very tech savvy era has been a learning curve, but I find them to be so incredibly lucky.
Today, cell phones, tablets and fun and educational learning apps are the norm for children. I am always looking for new ways to keep my kids learning as well as able to communicate with family & friends, which is important because we live in a rural town a little over an hour away from our relatives.
We started using Messenger Kids this year and are huge fans. This app is connected to my Facebook Messenger, so I can easily control my kid’s accounts.
One of things we love is the Messenger Kids pledge that comes up when setting up an account. This is the first screen that kids see, and it sets great guidelines for them. With simple rules such as to be kind, respectful, safe and most importantly to have fun sets awesome standards for kids.
What can parents control on Messenger Kids?
Parents control their child’s contact list and have to approve all contacts.
Parents can always check-in on their child’s messaging threads to see prior conversations.
Parents can set “off time” on the app, which helps manage screen time. This is the perfect way to make sure homework is getting done after school and bedtime schedules go uninterrupted.
Parents and kiddos can report or block contacts.
These controls are the perfect way to give your kiddos freedom yet still be able to monitor their safely. We love that Messenger Kids is the safer and fun messaging app for kids that we all love!
Why do kids love Messenger Kids?
It has fun stickers, GIFs and filters that are kid-appropriate and making chatting fun.
Kids get to communicate using one-on-one or group video chat and messaging.
There is an endless amount of laughing and playing all while staying in touch with friends and family.
Games and educational tools make learning fun!
Messenger Kids has helped Madison stay connected with family who have busy schedules and can’t see her face to face. We love the video chat feature on Messenger Kids, which bridges and enhances digital communication.
Madison looks forward to her daily video chats with my nephew and even though they only see each other once every few weeks, when they do see each other it’s like they just saw each other yesterday!
We are truly lucky to be able to raise our kids in a world that is so technology driven, which lets them enhance their relationships and use fun apps to learn and play. I can’t wait to see what is next!
Messenger Kids is available on mobile devices and tablets via the relevant App Store – iOS, Android, or Amazon Fire. The Messenger Kids app is a separate download and does not create a Facebook account for the kid. It’s super easy to download and the best part is that it is free!
